Ex-deputy speaker found dead at Rampurhat party office

Ashis Banerjee, 74, former West Bengal deputy speaker and five-time MLA from Rampurhat, was found hanging on 16 August at a Trinamool Congress office near his home in Hattala Para, Birbhum. Police recovered a purported note on his former MLA letterhead. He is survived by his wife and son. The body went for post-mortem. He lost the 2026 poll.
