Spotify to badge AI Persona artists from mid-September
The Economic Times··2 Sept
Spotify India music head Dhruvank Vaidya said the platform keeps AI-assisted music and targets impersonation, copyright infringement and deception. From mid-September, Spotify will add an AI Persona badge on profiles that appear AI-generated. AI Persona tracks stay out of recommendations unless a listener already follows that persona. AI Credits since April 2026 draw tens of thousands of daily disclosures.

What It Means For You
- Listeners will see who appears AI-generated without a blanket ban on AI-made tracks.
- Default exclusion from recommendations limits discovery for AI Persona catalogues.
- Artists can still disclose partial AI use through AI Credits.
What's Happening
- Vaidya spoke beside Spotify's Loud and Clear 2026 India report.
- He said listening is driven by tracks and artists, not AI labels alone.
- The badge marks identity, not how much AI entered the song production.
Where Spotify Draws the Line
- A ProMarket report said streaming was 69 percent of global recorded-music revenue in 2024, or $20.4 billion.
- 2024 experiments found listeners often rated AI songs no worse until told they were AI-made.
- Spotify argues removing all AI music could also remove artists fans knowingly follow.
