The Hindu··18h ago
Rahul Gandhi called an INDIA bloc march to the Supreme Court on October 12, 2026, to hand CJI Surya Kant a memorandum over alleged vote theft. The CJI declined, saying related issues are sub judice. Delhi Metro will shut entry and exit at 6 central stations from 6 am to 4 pm. About 7,000 protesters were detained on October 10.

What It Means For You
- Patel Chowk, Janpath, Rajiv Chowk, Mandi House, Central Secretariat and Barakhamba Road stations stay closed for entry and exit until 4 pm.
- Interchange inside those stations remains available, DMRC said, but street-level access does not.
- Delhi Traffic Police diversions run from 6 a.m. across central stretches; non-essential travel through those areas faces delays.
What's Happening
- Congress has framed the day as Chalo Delhi - March for Democracy, with leaders to gather at Connaught Place-Barakhamba Road at 1.30 pm.
- Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge sought a 4 to 5 pm meeting with the CJI to demand CEC Gyanesh Kumar's resignation, a halt to SIR, and a return to paper ballots.
- The CJI's office told The Hindu the request was declined with reasons because the issues are already before the court on the judicial side.
Why The Court Said No
- October 12 is the third day of anti-CEC protests that began on October 10 against CEC Gyanesh Kumar and Special Intensive Revision of rolls.
- CJP and opposition leaders were among those held when authorities blocked a planned Jantar Mantar demonstration on October 10.
- Two days earlier, authorities had shut 45 metro stations during the CJP protest, NDTV reported.
