What It Means For You

  • Equity investors saw benchmarks slip about half a percent as crude climbed toward $90 a barrel.
  • Watchers of household inflation can track whether higher oil prices feed into upcoming India price prints.
  • Sector followers can note hospitals and realty lagged while parts of IT and energy finished firmer.

What's Happening

  • Sensex closed at 78,154.25, down 388.19 points; Nifty ended at 24,471.70, down 112.10 points.
  • Brent crude jumped 2.18 percent to $89.63 per barrel on geopolitical uncertainty.
  • Brokers said the crude rebound and weekly F&O expiry weighed on Tuesday sentiment.

Why Crude Still Moves Indian Equity Days

  • India imports most of its crude, so oil spikes quickly shape inflation and rate expectations.
  • Geopolitical headlines around the Strait of Hormuz and US Iran talks often lift energy prices.
  • Even with recent FII buying, a single oil surge can overshadow supportive earnings news in a session.
