Rajasthan ordered statewide screening of pregnant women on July 14 after 18 maternal deaths in two months at government hospitals in Kota, Bikaner, Jodhpur, Bhilwara and Banswara. Health Minister Gajendra Singh Khimsar met experts and visited Bhilwara and Banswara hospitals. Five women at Kota Medical College with post-childbirth kidney failure warned they may stop dialysis without government help.
