UNDP project links 42,000 waste pickers to benefits

More than 42,000 waste workers are linked to Project Utthaan, a UNDP-backed drive treating Safai Mitras as climate partners. Workers cite bank accounts, insurance, e-Shram cards and scheme access since 2020. Delhi worker Joginder Kewat said he earned about Rs 100 to Rs 150 a day before joining. The Planet Starts With People campaign launched on World Environment Day 2026.
