Typhoon Bavi, spanning about 1,000 km at its widest point, is sweeping toward Taiwan and Japan as East Asia braces for a destructive storm, BBC reported. Japan Airlines cancelled more than 100 flights for Friday and Saturday while All Nippon Airways axed over 160 through Sunday, disrupting travel for nearly 40,000 passengers. Thai Airways and Malaysia Airlines also grounded Taipei routes.
