Ongole woman dies after lift moves with gate open

On 16 August 2026, a 50-year-old woman identified as Vanitha died after a lift at Surya Towers in Ongole moved down while its gate was still open. She had been travelling with her daughter and grandson, who stepped out first. She was trapped between the cabin and the landing. Residents pulled her out, and she died in hospital.
