US religious panel seeks RSS sanctions before Bhagwat visit

The US Commission on International Religious Freedom asked the US government to sanction Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh members rather than honour them with high-level meetings. The remarks came ahead of RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat's visit to the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom, beginning 25 August 2026. Chair Asif Mahmood and Commissioner Gene Mills made the comments.

- RSS describes itself as a cultural organisation marking 100 years; Bhagwat's visit is being hosted by local associations, not listed as a state-to-state summit.
