BRS protests after court stay on marriage-aid schemes

Bharat Rashtra Samithi called statewide protests on 17 August at constituency and mandal centres over Kalyana Lakshmi and Shaadi Mubarak. Working president KT Rama Rao said the Congress government was using a High Court stay as a reason to stop the schemes. He said they were launched on 2 October 2014 and later paid Rs 100116 per beneficiary.

Why The Court Halted The Government Orders
- Advocate Vijay Gopal's PIL said the schemes were run by executive order without an Assembly statute, raising questions under Articles 245, 246, 162 and 13(2).
- K Chandrashekar Rao launched the programmes on 2 October 2014 for SC, ST and minority brides, later expanded to BC and EBC households.
- The state was directed to file its counter before the 9 September hearing after missing the earlier deadline.
