Malaysia blocks under-16 social media account registrations

Malaysia began enforcing rules barring children under 16 from registering social media accounts from June 1. The Child Protection Code under the Online Safety Act applies to major platforms with at least eight million Malaysian users, including Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube. Platforms must implement age verification, while existing users face phased checks over six months.
