OpenAI unveils Dots always-on AI agents
The Indian Express··30 Sept
OpenAI introduced Dots, always-on personal AI agents, at its developers conference on September 29. CEO Sam Altman said the agents handle tasks from restaurant bookings to multi-step work such as invoicing. Dots run on GPT-6 Astra inside their own virtual machines and can connect to over 4,000 apps. Each agent works toward goals around the clock, OpenAI said.

What It Means For You
- Users can assign tasks in ChatGPT chat or voice and later continue them in Slack or Teams.
- Dots keep a separate cloud computer unless a user chooses to connect a device.
- In proactive research mode, OpenAI says agents stay read-only without sending messages.
What's Happening
- Live demos stumbled at times during the onstage presentation.
- OpenAI positions Dots against other personal agents including Meta's Muse.
- Sensor Tower estimated Muse at about 2.8 million downloads in its first two weeks.
Crowded agent market
- Rival offerings named in coverage include Instinct, SpaceXAI's Grok Bot and Microsoft Autopilot.
- OpenAI CFO Sarah Friar once referred to Dots as Muse in an interview, the report said.
- Dots can use saved passwords to sign into sites without exposing them to the model.
