Rafale plan targets India's fighter squadron shortage

The proposed Rafale acquisition addresses a serious IAF capacity gap, with about 29 fighter squadrons against an authorised 42. India already operates 36 Rafales under the 2016 agreement. The new programme could have 90 to 94 aircraft manufactured in India through a Dassault partnership under Make in India as older fleets retire and replacements lag badly.
