Biren tells Shah Manipur wants NRC before census

Former Manipur chief minister N Biren Singh said on 18 August 2026 that home minister Amit Shah gave a positive response after he raised a demand to update the National Register of Citizens before census work in the state. Singh spoke at Imphal airport. He said people were not against the census but wanted the NRC first.
