An RTI reply shows every fourth Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana account is inoperative. About 5.72 crore accounts had zero balance. As of August 12, 2026, more than 59 crore PMJDY accounts held over Rs 3,15,179 crore. Women, including transgender holders, had 32.89 crore accounts. Men held 26.14 crore accounts nationwide. Uttar Pradesh recorded the largest share of idle accounts.
