Uttar Pradesh minister O P Rajbhar said the state would soon be divided into four parts, with Purvanchal getting a chief minister from his community. The remarks renewed talk of carving Western UP, Awadh, Bundelkhand and Purvanchal. The firmest Assembly step came in November 2011 under Mayawati's BSP government. That resolution lapsed after the Samajwadi Party won power in 2012.
