Nanded inspector stops kirpan strike on Sukhbir Badal

Shiromani Akali Dal chief Sukhbir Singh Badal was attacked with a kirpan on August 13 at Mata Sahib Devaji Gurdwara near Nanded. Inspector Santosh Vaijnath Kendre of Maharashtra's Special Protection Unit intercepted the blow and was injured on his right arm. Badal suffered a hand injury and a fracture and was treated at Yashosai Hospital.

- Badal arrived in Nanded at about 4.45 pm on August 12. His August 13 visits included Maltekdi, Heera Ghat and the Mata Sahib gurdwara.
- Security mixed an ASP-led Maharashtra team, Punjab personnel, and SPU officers. The shrine is managed by a Budha Dal splinter group headed locally by Baba Teja Singh.
- Kendre told Harsimrat Kaur the reaction was training, not a favour. She also thanked the Prime Minister and the Union Home Minister for calls after the attack.
