Bangladesh says BRICS invite was for BIMSTEC chair

Bangladesh will not be represented at the BRICS summit in any official capacity, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Humaiun Kobir said on Thursday. He said India invited Prime Minister Tarique Rahman as BIMSTEC chair, not as Bangladesh's prime minister. Kobir said Rahman's first India visit would be bilateral. India had invited regional organisation chairs in August 2026.
