Assam Budget proposes green cess on polluting industries

Assam Finance Minister Jayanta Mallabaruah on July 10 proposed a green cess on polluting industrial units in his maiden Budget, The Hindu reported. The levy would apply to stone crushers, coke-based industries, brick kilns, second-hand vehicle transfers, commercial groundwater extraction and other notified activities. Proceeds would fund afforestation, pollution control, biodiversity conservation, climate adaptation and green energy projects across the state.
