Rajasthan's ruling BJP expelled 42 functionaries for six years for backing rebels or contesting as Independents ahead of Wednesday's first-phase urban local body polls. Orders issued Monday night by Shravan Singh Bagdi named former Ajmer mayor Dharmendra Gehlot among those removed. Jaipur accounted for 26 expulsions. Campaigning for the phase has ended ahead of a 48-hour silence period.
