AICTE orders closure of 58 engineering colleges nationwide

The All India Council for Technical Education ordered progressive closure of 58 engineering and technical colleges across India for the 2025-26 academic year on July 6, 2026. Enrolled students may complete their degrees but no new first-year admissions are permitted. Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra recorded 12 closures each, the highest among states, according to an AICTE official.
