The Hindu BusinessLine··1 Oct
India’s power consumption rose 11.35 percent year on year to 162.19 billion units in September, up from 145.66 billion units a year earlier. Peak demand reached 269.06 GW, compared with 229.15 GW in September 2025. That peak stayed below May’s record high of 270.82 GW. Experts linked early-month humidity and higher cooling load to the rise.

What It Means For You

- Consumption and demand eased in the second half of September after the early spike.
- IMD expects above-normal October temperatures in many regions, which can keep cooling load elevated.

- Last summer’s peak was 242.77 GW in June 2025, below a 277 GW estimate.

The Weather Link to Demand
- IMD said October rainfall is likely below normal at 85 percent of the long period average.
- The October LPA rainfall figure based on 1971-2020 data is about 75.4 mm.
