Tanzanian president's husband Hafidh Ameir dies

Hafidh Ameir Hassan, husband of Tanzania's President Samia Suluhu Hassan, died Monday at Emilio Mzena Memorial Hospital in Zanzibar, Vice-President Deogratius Ndejembi said. Ndejembi said Ameir had a heart condition and died at 08:00 local time. Funeral arrangements were under way in Kizimkazi on Zanzibar. Ameir, an agricultural academic, became the first First Gentleman when Samia took office in 2021.
