EY-IESA sees $200 billion India chip demand by 2035

The Hindu BusinessLine··5d ago

An EY-IESA report said India's next semiconductor phase centres on using chips designed, produced and packaged in India inside products made domestically. India is projected to become a semiconductor consumption market of about USD 200 billion by 2035. Much of that demand now sits inside imported electronic systems, the report said, limiting domestic value capture.

What It Means For You

  • The report links domestic chip use to consumer electronics, auto, telecom and medical devices.
  • It frames Semicon India 2.0 as the policy backdrop for the current build-out.
  • Stronger downstream manufacturing would pull more semiconductor value into India, it said.

What's Happening

  • EY and the India Electronics and Semiconductor Association released the joint report.
  • Public investment and anchor manufacturing projects are already under way, it said.
  • The authors describe a shift toward domestic demand and higher value addition.

Where Demand Sits Today

  • A large share of chip demand is embedded in imported modules, kits and assembled products.
  • The report lists aerospace, defence and artificial intelligence among target sectors.
  • It argues downstream demand can be as important as supply-side factory support.
