Hindustan Times··28 Aug
Delhi reported 166 new H1N1 cases on August 27, up from 138 a day earlier, taking the cumulative count to 2,612. Total influenza A cases rose to 3,300 from 3,177. The ICMR said this is seasonal influenza, not a new strain. Dr Arpit Bansal said breathing difficulty, chest pain, confusion or falling oxygen levels need medical attention.

What It Means For You
- Doctors advise Delhi residents with breathing difficulty, chest pain, confusion, persistent fever or falling oxygen levels to seek medical care rather than home remedies.
- Older adults, young children, pregnant women and people with diabetes, heart or lung conditions are advised to consult a doctor early if flu symptoms appear.
- Delhi's rising case count, alongside a jump in overall influenza A cases to 3,300, shows flu activity increasing citywide even though ICMR calls it a normal seasonal pattern.
What's Happening
- Delhi recorded 166 fresh H1N1 cases on August 27, up from 138 the previous day, taking the cumulative swine flu count to 2,612.
- ICMR confirmed there is no new strain circulating and called this seasonal influenza behaving as it normally does.
- Dr Bansal said the same virus can affect one household member severely and another mildly, depending on immunity.
Why Flu Severity Varies By Person
- Dr Bansal said his practice now checks vitamin D levels before surgery just as it checks haemoglobin, targeting a serum level of 50 to 80 ng/ml.
- He linked gut health to immunity, citing fibre, fermented foods, seven hours of sleep and hydration as supportive during flu season.
- Bansal is a laparoscopy and surgical oncology consultant at Jeevan Jyoti Hospital in Prayagraj.
