Census phase 2 to record caste, parents birth details

The population enumeration phase of Census 2027 will begin August 17 in Ladakh and snow bound areas of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand, a home ministry notification said. For the first time since 1931, it will record caste as declared by respondents, along with parents' date and place of birth, passport numbers where available and voluntary Aadhaar numbers.
