Defence ministry lists 405 items for phased import ban

On 18 August 2026, the Ministry of Defence notified its sixth positive indigenisation list, covering 405 components, spares and raw materials. Imports of those items will be phased out on indicative dates from December 2026 to December 2029. The list includes parts for the Su-30MKI, Tejas, T-72 and T-90 tanks, warships and missile systems. What It Means For You
- If you supply parts to HAL, other DPSUs or the Coast Guard, 405 items now have a future date after which they are to be bought only in India.
- Anyone tracking fighter and tank maintenance can note the list names line-replaceable units for the Su-30MKI, Tejas, AL-31FP engine, T-72, T-90 and BMP-II.

How This List Fits The Earlier Import Bans
- India uses two tracks: bans on complete platforms, and bans on smaller parts. This sixth list is the parts track.
- Five earlier parts lists covered 5,012 items. Separate platform lists have placed 509 major systems under import embargo since 2020.
- SIPRI said India's arms imports fell 4 percent between 2016-20 and 2021-25, while the country stayed the world's second-largest importer.
