Manipur valley strike seeks NRC before Census 2027

A 48-hour strike called by the Campaign for Just and Fair Delimitation closed markets, schools and public transport in Manipur's valley districts on 18 August 2026. Protesters want the National Register of Citizens updated before Census 2027. Hill districts including Churachandpur were not affected. Enforcers blocked roads with bamboo and stones. The shutdown was listed until midnight on 19 August.
