Power demand runs 3.3% above CEA April-August plan
The Indian Express··2 Oct
India's actual energy requirement from April to August was 3.3 percent higher than Central Electricity Authority short-term projections. Similar overshoots in 2022 and 2023 were smaller, at 1.8 percent and 0.75 percent. Coal-based generation rose nearly 10 percent year on year to 579,869.38 million units. - Thermal plant coal inventories fell to 18.6 million tonnes by September 30 from about 55 million tonnes in early April.
What's Happening
- Deficient rains and high temperatures lifted electricity demand above the Load Generation Balance Report path.
- Officials said September rainfall in northern and eastern India began moderating load.
- Hydropower output fell to 75,304.58 million units from 84,767.77 million units a year earlier.
Why The Gap Matters
