Gunmen killed Baidyanath Mahto, husband of ward councillor Khushdil Devi, on a morning walk at 6.30 a.m. on September 12, 2026 in Kaitharia, Sitamarhi. Villagers said eight bullets hit his body and pelted stones at police, injuring officers. Mahto had filed case number 432 of 2026 on August 29. SP Amit Ranjan suspended the SHO and investigating officer for negligence.
