Odisha evacuates over three lakh as northern rivers rise

Depression-induced rain worsened floods in northern Odisha on 18 August as several rivers rose. Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi said 9.40 lakh people were affected and 3.30 lakh had been evacuated after he visited marooned villages in Jajpur and Bhadrak. He then held a high-level review. The depression had moved over Jharkhand and northern Gangetic West Bengal.
