Meghalaya High Court orders action after Shillong rally violence

On 20 August 2026, the Meghalaya High Court took suo motu cognisance of violence during a Khasi Students Union bike rally in Shillong a day earlier and directed prompt action. Justices HS Thangkhiew and W Diengdoh said government, police and public transport vehicles were damaged and schoolchildren were put at risk. An action taken report is due on 24 August.
