NCW chief says sexual offence cases need broader focus

NCW chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar on July 15 said courts should not confine interpretation of sexual offences to the physical act alone. She said equal importance must be given to the survivor's dignity, consent, fear experienced and psychological trauma. Her remarks followed a Patna High Court judgment that reportedly held removing a woman's salwar did not amount to attempted rape.
