The rupee closed 7 paise lower at 95.96 against the US dollar on Friday after giving up early gains. It opened at 95.75 and touched an intraday high of 95.71 before finishing at the day's low. Thursday's close was 95.89. The dollar index rose 0.24 percent to 100.39. FIIs bought equities worth Rs 599.54 crore net, exchange data showed.
