Home Secretary reviews Himalayan GLOF preparedness

Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan chaired a meeting on September 3 with Himalayan states on preparedness for glacial lake outburst floods and snow avalanches. Chief secretaries from Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir attended. The review follows Nepal flash floods that killed hundreds. Mohan called for continuous surveillance of vulnerable glacial lakes.
