Denmark ends mink farming by August 2029
BBC News·
Denmark will end mink farming by August 2029 after the government dropped plans to seek an EU exemption for the industry. An EU invasive-species ban is due on 7 August next year, followed by a two-year transition. Nature Minister Christian Rabjerg Madsen said the coalition chose animal welfare. About 15,000 mink remain on seven farms.

Why Denmark still farmed mink
- Denmark was once the world’s largest mink-fur producer before global bans and trade decline.
- About 15 million mink were culled after a Covid strain was found in the animals.
