Court cuts civil-judge bar practice to one year

On 21 August 2026, the Supreme Court modified its May 2025 rule that required three years of bar practice before Civil Judge Junior Division exams. A 2-1 Bench of Chief Justice Surya Kant and Justices Augustine George Masih and K Vinod Chandran cut pre-entry practice to one year for notifications issued from 1 April 2027. Justice Chandran dissented.
