Congress invites Mamata to July 21 Martyrs Day event

West Bengal Congress president Subhankar Sarkar on July 14 invited TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee to the party's July 21 Martyrs Day programme at Shahid Minar in Kolkata. He asked her to acknowledge that leaving the Congress in December 1997 was a mistake. Thirteen people allegedly died in police firing during a July 21, 1993 Youth Congress rally led by Banerjee.
