Census 2027 household schedule lists 40 questions

The Registrar General of India on August 14 notified 40 questions for the Household Schedule of Census 2027. The list covers name, sex, age, marital status, religion, caste including SC and ST, disability, languages, education, work, migration and fertility. It also asks place of Covid-19 vaccination, bank-account totals, and Aadhaar, voter ID, passport, driving licence and mobile if available.

- If an enumerator visits your home in Census 2027, the notified Household Schedule has 40 questions, including work, migration, education and caste.
- Residents can expect optional fields for Aadhaar, voter ID, passport, driving licence and mobile number, plus a question on the place of Covid-19 vaccination.
- Households in snow-bound Ladakh, Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal and Uttarakhand face Population Enumeration from 1 September 2026, ahead of the February 2027 national round.
What's Happening
- On August 14 the Office of the Registrar General notified 40 questions for the Census 2027 Household Schedule under the Census Act, 1948.

How The Two Census Phases Were Split
- Houselisting questions notified in January 2026 already asked whether the head of household belonged to SC, ST or another category.
- Mint reported that Population Enumeration in designated snow-bound areas runs from 1 September to 30 September 2026, with revision from 1 to 5 October.
- Economic Times said the 2027 census will be fully digital and will include caste enumeration for the first time since 1931.
