Election Commission orders drive for left-out voters
NDTV··2 Oct
The Election Commission told officials Thursday to enrol left-out and new voters where SIR is complete. Booth Level Officers will compare rolls with pre-SIR lists and check 20 to 25 missing electors a week. Form 6 forms are to be collected on the spot and shared with party agents. Tamil Nadu's CEO said a September 29 order set the drive.

What It Means For You
- Eligible citizens omitted after SIR can still seek inclusion through continuous updation and Form 6.
- BLOs are told to finish house-to-house checks for identified missing electors within about one month.
- In Tamil Nadu, non-SIR enrolment uses Registration of Electors Rules 1960 forms, not the SIR declaration form.
What's Happening
- The Commission said voter registration remains ongoing after SIR enumeration ends in a state.
- Officials cited a virtual meeting with state chief electoral officers before the written instruction.
- Companion NDTV coverage linked the drive to about 13 crore draft-roll deletions during SIR nationwide.
What The Numbers Show
- BusinessLine reported nine states and three Union territories saw rolls pruned by 10.2 percent after SIR.
- The same report said over 60 lakh dead voters were removed in that combined list.
- The EC said SIR decisions were unanimous despite reports of internal differences.
