58 TMC MLAs back Ritabrata Banerjee as LoP

West Bengal Assembly Speaker Rathindra Bose recognised Ritabrata Banerjee as Leader of the Opposition after 58 Trinamool MLAs backed him, crossing the two-thirds threshold cited in anti-defection debates. He received keys to the Opposition chamber. Mamata Banerjee had nominated Sobhandeb Chattopadhyay, but rebels alleged signature forgery on that letter. Officials expect further briefings this week.
