Indians formed majority of sailors killed in Hormuz attacks

Indians accounted for seven of 16 seafarers killed in attacks on commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz crisis between March 1 and July 14, 2026. Indians formed nearly 44 percent of fatalities despite supplying around 12 percent of the global seafaring workforce. Three Indian seafarers died in US attacks on oil tankers between June 8 and June 11.
