Keralam sets Rs 25 crore district investment approval cap

The Hindu BusinessLine··4d ago

Industries Minister P K Kunhalikutty told the Assembly Keralam will amend laws to speed industrial approvals. Cabinet gave in-principle nod to the SARK scheme under a One State, One Approval, One Document plan. District approval is capped at Rs 25 crore; projects above Rs 50 crore need Chief Secretary clearance. Approvals stay inside departments but within fixed timelines, he said.

What It Means For You

  • Investors would face time-bound clearances rather than open-ended departmental delays, the minister said.
  • Existing environmental procedures will continue to apply, Kunhalikutty told members raising concerns.
  • Amendments will go to Cabinet one by one before the Assembly, he said.

What's Happening

  • Kunhalikutty said laws that stand in the way will have to be amended.
  • Reforms also cover rules, government orders, land-use provisions and the investor incentive package.
  • A data-driven investment cell under KSIDC is part of the UDF government's 100-day programme.

The Money Already Pitched

  • Through KSIDC and the IT department, the state has received investment offers worth Rs 73,401 crore, he said.
  • Proposals under consideration include logistics hubs, solar power, battery storage and bauxite mining in Kasaragod.
  • He cited high costs and administrative delays as remaining obstacles to investment.
